Tom's Timeline
(Last updated 2/14/2011)

Anyone is welcome to drop me a line at (thomas.hawkes at G^M\A_I/L.com) and catch up. [gmail.com]

2011 - Still with KP IT (Closing in on 4 years this June), and loving Albany. We did a great trip to Maui in January and I managed to swim out off the beach and on two different days I got to swim with mother and calf humpback whales. The kids (and us) had a great time.

2010 - Still working at KP IT, still living in Albany. We took a big (3 wk) family to Asia in the spring and we visited Hong Kong and a few parts of Indonesia (Jakarta and Bali mostly).

2009 - Moved up to Director at Kaiser Permanente. Free of the house we moved over to Albany, CA. Great schools and a fun tight knit community.

2008 - House never destined to be complete. Moved up to Senior Manager at Kaiser Permanente and now I own two departments, Performance and Value Management. Lawsuit finally settled, but after all commitments were paid back we really did not have crap. Could not get the bank to accept a variety of short sale offers on the house (it still was leaking/molding/etc) so gave it up to foreclosure. The idiot bank accepted, over a year later, a foreclosure auction price below 2 of our better shortsale offers.

2007 - House still not done. Ellie is 5+, Shay is 4+ (in ~1 mo.), Devin is 2+. I left consulting to try and get more family time, with Kaiser IT, their Performance Management group (doing strategic planning, balanced scorecards, ...).

2006 - House still not done. Finished out Wells contract and moved to manage a small IT/biz consulting team working onsite w/McKesson Corp. Lawsuit started around house issues.

2005 - Kid #3 came on 5/12/05, about a week early, and was 7lb 8oz. She was originally Ava Madera but later changed to Devin Madera. The house is still not done but sometime in Q1-05 we can hope! Oldest is in preschool and having a blast. Oldest also ALWAYS make sure we don't ever leave out the baby in mommy's tummy. Youngest (for now) is a wild little beast at a 1 yr plus. Both had a great holiday season and were a huge fan of xmas lights. Did 5+ years with the enviro company (LFR) but left that fall and did a independent contract with Wells Fargo in their Internet Service Group.

2004 - Both kids have followed me in the top percentiles for height and they are near the 50th for weight. Alia has been in the biotech field for the last few years and the kids do daycare during the day. I am working through my 4th+ year with my environmental firm. We are lucky that Alia goes in and gets off quite early to pick up the kids, and I go in around 8 to drop them off so we get lots of time with the kiddos considering. The house is still not done - but hopefully it will be by early Q4-2004.

2003 - still with the environmental company going on 3+ years. Second daughter Shay Analise Hawkes is born on 9/15/03 and is 9lb 5oz and 21.25" long. This time we induced at 38 weeks because otherwise it was projected that Shay would have been 11lb! There was no gestational diabetes - just big kids! Start building a house from scratch in the east bay.

2002 - just had our our first baby on March 17th 2002. Her name is Daniela Elyse Hawkes (aka Ellie). She was 9lb 7oz, 22" long. 53 hrs of labor!!! Everyone is healthy and mobile and both Alia and I are taking some time off to be with her and we will be working a reduced schedule (30hrs/wk) for several months. We decided our little ~900 sqft 2bed/1bath was not fitting us very well now that we were a threesome. So after failing to find a house we liked, was big enough, and that we could afford - we sold the old house and bought an empty lot. We started plans to build a custom home in El Cerrito, CA.

2001 - finish grad school, find out Alia is pregnant. She had some good offers/grants/funding for her PhD at UCSF and Univ. of Washington, but decided instead to focus on the pregnancy and delay (and eventually drop) her doctoral ambition.

2000 - start working with an environmental consulting firm (LFR Levine-Fricke, now Arcadis) in Emeryville, keep slugging through grad school + work = ouch.

1999 - still working for the battery company, get married to Alia in the spring, buy a house at the Richmond/El Cerrito, CA border, and start a working grad school program for a MS in Environmental Management at Univ. of SF that fall.

1998 - started working as a project chemist and programmer for a small R&D battery company (PolyPlus Battery Company) trying to develop Li based rechargeable battery systems. Move in with Alia and move out to El Cerrito (got tired of no parking in Berkeley).

1997 - finished by BA in Physical Science from U.C. Berkeley (lots of chemistry/physics/engineering) with a side helping of lots of computer science (CS). I would have done CS, but my GPA was not over the required 3.5 for core classes.

1993/1997 - Had some fun but mostly studied a lot and played lots of water polo at U.C. Berkeley. Eventually I got tired of the pot smoking SoCal kids blowing big games, I needed more time to take the classes that I needed to graduate, and most importantly I was starting to fall in love with my future wife (Alia) and I Wanted to spend more time with her.

1993 - graduated Fairfield High School (Fairfield, CA), was an All-American in waterpolo, captained the US Junior National waterpolo team to the Mexico Olympic festival in Mexico City, and graduated in the top ten of my class with a GPA of 4.xy something or other.
